Yesterday tier restrictions were confirmed to England Hockey and after finding out EXACTLY what they meant England Hockey updated their Covid-19 advice.
Hopefully all clubs will remember when we issued the East Leagues action that the government had given the green light for competitive sport to return and it was possible for games to be played from the 5th December and we wanted to facilitate clubs in returning to play by giving a suitable structure.
We also mentioned at the time of writing to you that England Hockey were awaiting the final advice from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport on what the Tier Restrictions were.
Yesterday those tier restrictions were confirmed to England Hockey and after finding out EXACTLY what they meant England Hockey updated their Covid-19 advice.
Unfortunately the advice places more harsh restrictions on travel, in that you can only travel in Tier 2 in a household bubble and not car share. The same condition applies to Tier 3 and unfortunately Tier 3 clubs cannot travel to play against Tier 2 clubs (and vice versa).
We understand that this will place a huge burden on clubs planning to play on 5th, 12th and 19th and planning to travel to away games may not be possible in all cases. Postponements to those games will of course be granted and the games affected should be moved to the dates provided in the Action Plan.
As stated previously it is key that all clubs, teams and players apply the England Hockey Covid-19 advice, as England Hockey are the National Governing Body whose policies taken the lead in these difficult times.
The East League will be writing to England Hockey to launch a campaign from Leagues and Clubs so that they can lobby in strength to have these restrictions lifted as quickly as possible. England Hockey Article
